Welcome to Shortgrass Library System

eResource Subscriptions

Online Resources

Shortgrass Library System licenses a variety of online resources which can be accessed by member  library patrons on-site at their home library and in many cases, from home via library card number and PIN.  The cost for some resources is shared among all fourteen member libraries, while other resources are funded directly by Shortgrass Library System, or by the generous support of Public Library Services Branch.

Shortgrass member library managers review each online resource annually, and decide as a group whether to renew a subscription based on cost, usage, and any other relevant factors.

OverDrive Collection Development

Shortgrass Library staff purchase eBooks and eAudiobooks for the LibraryToGo collection based on the amount of money allocated to the OverDrive system-wide collection development. The OverDrive purchases are done on a weekly schedule and are based on the list of the most popular titles according to a variety of sources.

Preference is given to eBooks; member libraries are encouraged to buy eAudiobooks based on their local demand. eBook and eAudiobook titles bought by an individual library or based on an individual library requests are paid for out of the library's own materials budget.

Shortgrass is also responsible for loading the catalogue records for all new titles purchased for the LibraryToGo collection and ensuring the optimal display of the OverDrive titles in the online catalogue.
