Consultation

Shortgrass is pleased to provide consulting services to our member libraries. The role of the consultant in a regional library system is to offer training and support to ensure member libraries provide the highest level of service possible to their patrons.

Our professionally-trained Client Services Librarian is available to assist you in the following areas:

  • Technology and digital resource training 
  • Programming and program development for all ages
  • Providing information on current trends and issues in library services
  • Consulting on specific questions, projects, or concerns at your library
  • Weeding and inventory
  • Standards and best practices
  • Marketing and promotional services
  • Development of resource support and training documents for use by library staff and the public

Technology

  • Individual and group training on Shortgrass digital resources and tools
  • Access to vendor-led training (i.e. OverDrive, RBdigital)
  • Troubleshooting and support for various resources and hardware (e.g. “Why is OverDrive doing this?” and “How do I show someone how to use a Kobo?”)

Programming

  • Development of programming kits for all ages and interests
  • Assistance with planning your library’s program or special event
  • Summer reading program for children and teens

Marketing and Promotion

  • Creation of materials (e.g. posters or brochures) to promote library services and events
  • Publication of a quarterly newsletter to inform member library staff, trustees and other systems about news and events at Shortgrass
  • Assistance with developing your library’s social media presence
