Welcome to Shortgrass Library System
Shortgrass Library System believes that environmentally-friendly practices are part of our organization’s responsibility to our communities.
In September 2015, Shortgrass passed its “Green” Building Operations Policy which states that “Shortgrass Library System will implement, monitor, and evaluate sustainable practices for its facility.” In fall 2015, working with ENMAX’s solar leasing program, Shortgrass installed 198 solar modules on the roof of its headquarters building, which should generate approximately 65,000 kWh of energy each year.
The Kw generated by the solar panels are expected to offset about 75% of the building’s overall electricity needs, as well as send some back to the grid on lower consumption days. The solar system will also offset approximately 45 tonnes of carbon annually which is the equivalent of planting 200 trees per year.
Shortgrass
Library System staff and board members are pleased to utilize this renewable
energy source, as well as reducing the organization’s carbon footprint, by
taking full advantage of their location in the sunniest corner of
Alberta.
