The Shortgrass Library System receives an annual Operating Grant from the Province of Alberta. The grant is based on the population of member jurisdictions in the Shortgrass region (see 2024/2025 Library System Operating Grants). The Shortgrass Library System also receives operating revenues from member municipalities and member library boards.  These revenues are based on a per capita levy which is reviewed annually by the Board of Trustees.

Operational Municipal Levies for current and previous budget years:

• 2023: $4.97 per capita
• 2022: $4.913 per capita
• 2021: $4.864 per capita
• 2020: $5.12 per capita
• 2019: $5.12 per capita

The fiscal year for Shortgrass runs from January 1 - December 31
