Welcome to Shortgrass Library System
The Shortgrass Library System receives an annual Operating Grant from the Province of Alberta. The library system grant is based on the population of member jurisdictions in the Shortgrass region (see Library System Operating Grants).
The Operating Grant for library system boards is based on the total population of participating jurisdictions as approved by the Minister. These grants are calculated by multiplying the combined municipal population as determined by the 2019 Municipal Affairs Population List (MAPL) by the maximum rate of $4.75 per capita.
The Library Services grant is paid to library system boards on behalf of residents of participating jurisdictions that do not have a local municipal or intermunicipal library board. This grant is calculated by multiplying the eligible 2019 Municipal Affairs population to a maximum of $5.60 per capita.
The Shortgrass Library System also receives per capita operating revenues from member municipalities and member library boards. The Municipal Levy is decided by the Shortgrass Library Board and voted info effect by all 11 member municipalities each year. The Materials Levy is voted on by the 14 member libraries each year.
