About The Shortgrass Library System
Shortgrass Library System provides Integrated Library Services (ILS) and other technical services to regional public libraries as well as school-based libraries belonging to Medicine Hat School District No.76 and the Prairie Rose School Division #8.
To provide services and support to member municipalities in the provision of comprehensive and cost effective library service through their autonomous local libraries. The provision of services will include resource sharing with other libraries of the province, the country, and the world.
Discussions of a library system in southeast Alberta began in 1977. In 1982 the name "Shortgrass" was chosen and the boundaries of the area were approved. Click here to read more
Shortgrass Library System is governed by a Board appointed by the funding municipalities and the Minister of Community Development, the Honourable Ray Danyluk. The Alberta Libraries Act and the Alberta Libraries Regulation also governs how Shortgrass operates.
